Bio
Hailing from Dallas, TX, Artega Wright is an electrifying singing actor who is making significant strides in the Midwest arts community. Since launching his professional career in 2017 alongside the legendary Kathleen Battle in Chicago, Artega has captivated audiences and critics alike with his powerful voice and dynamic stage presence.

A cherished collaborator of the Chicago Opera Theater, he has showcased his talents in acclaimed productions such as Jake Heggie’s Moby Dick and Errollyn Wallen’s Quamino’s Map, where he covered the role of Archibald Campbell. In 2023, he took on the pivotal role of Sam in Lyric Opera of Chicago’s The Factotum, further establishing his reputation as a formidable talent in the opera world.

Artega has made a notable impact with both Opera Columbus and Dayton Opera, where he has quickly become a resident favorite. He shone as Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin under the baton of Rossen Milanov and delighted audiences with his comedic chops in a 90-minute production of Carmen. He also portrayed the Fairy Godfather, Alidoro, in Cinderella.
During his time with Dayton Opera, Artega had an artist-in-residence stint, performing and educating students through the program Who Wants to Be an Opera Star? This initiative exposed the next generation of opera lovers to the art form. Notable roles with Dayton Opera include King Balthazar in Amahl and the Night Visitors, ensemble solos in Sweeney Todd, and Donner in Das Rheingold. He has also collaborated with the Dayton Philharmonic in the enchanting Magic Carpet Concerts and delivered a powerful rendition of Burleigh’s "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" at the New World Symphony concert.

Beyond his artistic endeavors, Artega—who identifies as neurodivergent—devotes himself to community engagement. As an instructional aide in a life skills classroom for students with multiple disabilities, he finds profound fulfillment in empowering and supporting his students. Additionally, he serves as a stage door attendant for CAPA, assisting artists and production teams at esteemed Ohio theaters.
Artega's artistic journey is built on a solid educational foundation, holding both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in vocal performance from Southern Methodist University and Wayland Baptist University, respectively. With his rich talent, unwavering commitment to the arts, and dedication to community service, Artega Wright is undoubtedly a name to watch in the world of opera!
